Firefox 3.5 and ... some dolphins

Now here it is, the long awaited Firefox 3.5:

Firefox 3.5 and Dolphins

So, since there is Firefox 3.5 and since there are dolphins (mascot of MySQL of course), lets look for a relation between Firefox 3.5 and MySQL which not everybody necessarily knows yet.

Ever wanted to search through the MySQL documentation from your Search bar?

Hi Marcus!

how are you? I'm enjoying the new ff too ;)

Just a question about the documentation search add-on...It's great functionality, but I feel I shouldn't have to install a add-on for that stuff. So I was wondering - would it be possible if the MySQL ref man would start offering opensearch support?

I know modern browsers (IE 7,8; FF 2,3) support opensearch and opensearch discovery. I implemented it myself, and it works great! IMO the advantage is that users only need to visit the website and the browser then allows the user to install the new search feature without actually installing any software.

With a little extra effort, you can implement search suggestion (autocomplete) and this is supported by IE 8 and FF3.

If you are interested, read more about it here:
http://www.opensearch.org/Home and https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Creating_OpenSearch_plugins_for_Firefox

just a suggestion ;)

Cheers and take care,

Roland

Hey Roland!

I'm fine :), I hope the same is true for you.

This really looks like something very interesting to explore, thanks for the suggestion.

Cheers,
Markus
